What are the chances Elliot’s uses the Japanese pronunciation of Godzilla…
I still quote the line “Thank you for not killing us” from Volunteers.
Hitchcock/Truffault is your typical Talking Heads documentary: They discuss the making of the Once in a Lifetime video, and the writing of Psycho Killer, and so on …
Nothing on Mayor Ebert and his advisor Gene? Ebert’s response is classic:
“then there are New York’s Mayor Ebert (gamely played by Michael Lerner) and his adviser, Gene (Lorry Goldman). The mayor of course makes every possible wrong decision (he is against evacuating Manhattan, etc.), and the adviser eventually gives thumbs-down to his reelection campaign. These characters are a reaction by Emmerich and Devlin to negative Siskel and Ebert reviews of their earlier movies (“Stargate,” “Independence Day”), but they let us off lightly; I fully expected to be squished like a bug by Godzilla. Now that I’ve inspired a character in a Godzilla movie, all I really still desire is for several Ingmar Bergman characters to sit in a circle and read my reviews to one another in hushed tones.”
Shoot a pile of fish, you feel good for a day. Teach a pile of fish, and you feel good for a lifetime.
So many things wrong with this stupid movie, like Godzilla swimming from Japan to NY: did (s)he go through the Panama canal? How does this massive monster stay under water at the fishing dock?
Also, what’s up with the jingoism of German immigrants to the US, do they ned to overcompensate (see also Donald Drumpf)? Does Emmerich get a boner every time he puts an American flag on screen? That’s the only reason I can see why they changed the nuclear bomb to a French one instead of an American one.
