Straight from the glamorous and echoey Minneapolis airport-adjacent La Quinta inn, it’s all three of the peaches in the same room, chewing over the Taron Egerton, not-your-daddy’s-Robin Hood. Meanwhile Dan talks a surprising amount about the Scarlet Pimpernel, Elliott talks about why the Sheriff of Nottingham’s goons are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and Stuart is F. Murray Enthusiastic.

The Robin Hood character was used as a supporting character in the story of Ivanhoe. Later stories conflated Robin and Wilfred of Ivanhoe, giving Ivanhoe’s backstory to Robin.
The Lion in Winter, Ivanhoe and Robin Hood could be seen as an informal trilogy about the succession of the British Crown from Henry the Second through Richard the First and then to King John.
I don’t understand: Where were the rockets and laser guns? Where were the secret bases on asteroids? This was the worst adaptation of Rocket Robin Hood ever.
So, for my recommendation of a better Robin Hood, it’s the 1997 mini series adaptation of Ivanhoe, featuring Ciaran Hinds and Christopher Lee. Christopher has played a Sith Lord, an evil wizard and Dracula, but far and away his most sinister role is the religious zealot Templar character from this.
I’m kind of surprised that Elliott, who’s never met a Broadway reference he didn’t like, didn’t recognize Tony-nominated composer Tim Minchin in the role of Friar Tuck!
I award myself one point of unearned smug satisfaction.
