Once again, proof that prequels are garbage. There’s a reason for when you start a story and that’s because backstory is inherently uninteresting when treated as story. Treated as exposition or brief flashbacks it’s fine and enhances stories. But mining the backstory, ala Phantom Menace, et al, is just lame.
Fail on not liking Nightshift, tho.
you guys suck or youre hilarious who cares
“Shadow of the Vampire”! That was a pretty good vamp’ film. Too bad Merhige pretty much imploded after it, then disappeared.
Hey you guys didn’t mention what I thought was the weirdest shit-ass thing in that movie : how they made Dracula a christian hero.
Like we all know how vampires are related to christianity, they fear the cross and holy water and all that shit, but in this movie Dracula fights for the good of the people, he sacrifices his life for them, he fights against the evil of Islam…
And there is THAT FUCKING SCENE where he is in a church (while being a vampire, sure), and his son comes up to him with some bread and he breaks the bred with his son. I mean… come on movie.
Eh, that part makes sense. The historical Vlad the Impaler was a Christian, and he fought the Ottomans. That is actually what happened and the movie is taking inspiration from that. Of course, Vlad the Impaler wasn’t a vampire and had fairly little to do with Bram Stoker’s character, so you kind of have to stretch to mash the two together, and it’s not like this movie was trying all that hard. But the reason why vampires being harmed by Christian symbolism is that they’re “unholy” creatures, so if you’re going to make your vampire sympathetic that’s a natural thing to cut down on. They’re still demonic.
In fairness this makes some sense. This Dracula movie is borrowing from the life of Vlad the Impaler who is celebrated as both national hero and defender of the faith in a lot of Romanian and Bulgarian writings.
I sincerely hope Don Draper becomes a regular feature on the podcast.
Coinage of the Ottoman empire includes the Gurush, Para, Mangir, and Akce. Elliot I can’t find any historical reference to ‘Ott-bucks’?
This is the cereal character you couldn’t remember: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/61/Mnbox05.jpg
No Radio Zork shirt? C’mooooooooooooon.
I started typing this comment thinking that I would sort of figure out something super hip and relevant to say before getting this far and realizing it was going to sort of suck. So instead I’ll just say that, as the last living vampire, I found this film and attatched podcast deeply disturbing and honestly not funny in the least. Good job!!!
elliott didn’t recommend dracula:pages from a virgin’s diary, he recommended archangel: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099053/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_65_dr
